Desde el año 2020, el planeta se encuentra inmerso en una pandemia de origen viral caracterizada por una cantidad considerable de enfermedades y muertes, esta situación también conlleva a entender que la infección aguda pueda transformarse en una fase prolongada de efectos posteriores a la COVID-19, cuya naturaleza se encuentra todavía en proceso de esclarecimiento, además de los efectos inmediatos tras la infección, tanto los pacientes como la sociedad en general se enfrentan con el obstáculo de las consecuencias en salud de larga duración relacionadas con la COVID-19, ampliamente denominadas como COVID largo o prolongado.
