Bursitis, una visión actualizada

La bursitis es la inflamación de la bursa, estructura en forma de bolsa, que se sitúa entre huesos, tendones y músculos, con una función facilitadora del movimiento de dichas estructuras entre sí. La etiología de las bursitis puede ser mecánica (traumatismo o sobreuso), microcristalina (gotosa), séptica y, en algunos casos, asociadas a ciertas enfermedades inflamatorias, como la artritis reumatoide o las espondiloartropatías. Las bursitis más frecuentes son la olecraniana, la prepatelar, la anserina y la trocantérea. El presente trabajo tiene como objetivo presentar una revisión actualizada de las bursitis que con más frecuencia se presentan en la práctica médica diaria y una visión general de su diagnóstico y tratamiento. La bursitis es una enfermedad frecuente en la consulta de reumatología, que guarda relación con determinados tipos de actividades laborales. El interrogatorio exhaustivo y el exámen físico minucioso permiten acercarse al diagnóstico con bastante exactitud. La ecografía es la técnica de elección en la confirmación del diagnóstico clínico. El análisis del líquido bursal será fundamental para el diagnóstico etiológico, sobre todo en las bursitis sépticas. La evolución es favorable en todos los casos tras instaurar tratamiento específico en función de las diferentes etiologías.
