Intervención educativa para la prevención del pie diabético

Introducción: La diabetes mellitus es una enfermedad metabólica caracterizada principalmente por hiperglucemia, genera complicaciones agudas y crónicas; entre las más temidas se encuentra el pie diabético, que es considerada la primera causa de amputación no traumática en miembros inferiores.
Objetivo: Evaluar los resultados de una intervención educativa orientada al mejoramiento del nivel de conocimiento sobre la prevención del pie diabético.
Método: Se realizó una investigación aplicada, con diseño cuasiexperimental descriptivo. El universo estuvo constituido por 56 paciente de los cuales 50 formaron parte de la muestra de investigación. Se utilizó la prueba de McNemar para identificar cambios en el nivel de conocimiento sobre prevención del pie diabético.
Resultados: predominio de pacientes entre 40 y 50 años (48 %), seguido de los que presentaban en el momento del estudio una edad entre 61 y 70 años (38 %). Existe un 64 % de pacientes femeninas, el 46 % de los pacientes se autoidentifica como mestizos y el 52 % refirió nivel educativo medio. Predominio de pacientes con nivel bajo durante el pretest (74,00 %). Después de la intervención se identificó que predominaban los pacientes con nivel medio (52,00 %), seguido de pacientes con nivel alto (38,00 %). Los resultados de la prueba de McNemar muestran valor de Z de 2,95 y significación estadística con p de 0,027.
Conclusiones. La intervención educativa aplicada generó cambios positivos en torno al mejoramiento del nivel de conocimiento sobre prevención del pie diabético en los pacientes que participaron en la investigación.
