Equilibrio emocional y su influencia post pandemia en adultos mayores con osteoartritis

Introducción: La COVID-19 generó una situación social complicada para toda la población, especialmente para los adultos mayores. Dentro de este grupo poblacional uno de los elementos más significativos fue la afectación del equilibrio emocional; del cual ya existe afectación en los pacientes con osteoartritis.
Objetivo: Evaluar el equilibrio emocional de los adultos mayores con osteoartritis posterior a la fase aguda de la pandemia de COVID-19.
Métodos: Investigación básica, no experimental, descriptiva y transversal que incluyó como universo a 176 adultos mayores con diagnóstico de osteoartritis, de los cuales 122 formaron parte de la muestra de investigación. Se utilizó, para determinar los elementos que afectan el equilibrio emocional de los participantes el test de Gordon.
Resultados: Promedio de edad de 73,04 años con predominio del sexo femenino (70,49 %) y de afectación de las rodillas (43,44 %). El 84,43 % refirió presentar al menos una enfermedad crónica diagnosticada y dentro de ellas la hipertensión arterial (60,19 %) y el hipotiroidismo (33,98 %) fueron las más referidas. El 56,56 % de los adultos mayores presenta un equilibrio emocional normal; sin embargo, en comparación con el periodo prepandemia, el 63,11 % refirió sentir afectación.
Conclusiones: Durante la pandemia de COVID-19 los adultos mayores con osteoartritis se enfrentaron a determinadas situaciones que afectaron su equilibrio emocional; después de pasada la fase más crítica de la pandemia, aún se expresan manifestaciones de ansiedad, depresión, miedo, preocupación y tendencia al encerramiento como parte de la expresión de la afectación emocional.
