Introducción: El lupus eritematoso sistémico es una enfermedad del grupo de las llamadas enfermedades autoinmunes, cuya etiología es desconocida
Objetivo: exponer el modo en que se manifiestan los síntomas y signos de la enfermedad, las consideraciones acerca de los criterios de clasificación de la Liga Europea Contra el Reumatismo y el Colegio Americano de Reumatología para el diagnóstico. Se presenta las generalidades de la fisiopatología, del lupus eritematoso sistémico en embarazadas y del tratamiento de la enfermedad.
Desarrollo: Se calcula que 16000 personas a nivel mundial son diagnosticadas con lupus eritematoso sistémico anualmente. Este padecimiento afecta predominantemente a mujeres en edad reproductiva.
Conclusiones: El lupus eritematoso en una enfermedad extremadamente difícil de tratar y que está presente en mujeres en edad reproductiva. El equipo de atención médica a las gestantes con lupus eritematoso sistémico debe ser multidisciplinario y estar familiarizado con el cuidado de este tipo de paciente Los estándares actuales de atención a los pacientes que la padecen dependen en gran medida de la gravedad de los síntomas.
