Psoas abscess. Case presentation and literature review
Keywords:
psoas abscess, systemic lupus erythematosusAbstract
Psoas muscle abscess is a rare and difficult to diagnose condition, with a generally nonspecific clinical presentation, which leads to a delay in diagnosis. In recent years, an increase in the number of diagnosed cases has been determined, which is due to the availability of advanced imaging techniques such as ultrasound and computed tomography; likewise, changes have been detected regarding its etiology, variety of presentation, diagnostic modalities and modifications in its management. Two cases are presented: a 34-year-old woman diagnosed with systemic lupus erythematosus, class IV lupus nephritis, diagnosed with psoas abscess; a 21-year-old man with a previous health history, who performed weight training and used IM anabolic steroids. Psoas abscess is a rare pathology whose presentation characteristics are usually nonspecific. CT is the standard diagnostic method and percutaneous drainage has good results and is the least aggressive therapeutic option for this disease.
