Abstract
Introduction: De Quervain's tenosynovitis is a painful inflammatory condition of the lateral wrist tendons (abductor pollicis longus (abductor pollicis longus) - extensor pollicis brevis (extensor pollicis brevis) that control thumb motion. Objective: The study aims to identify effective conservative treatments for the treatment of De Quervain's tenosynovitis. Method. The study was based on a systematic review in 06 databases: PubMed, Scielo, Elsiever, Medline, Science Direct, Web of Science, of randomized controlled trials, published between 2019-2023, selected using descriptors and keywords. Following the guidelines of the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses statement and Physiotherapy Evidence Database methodological rating scale for quality assurance. Results: Of the 47 randomized controlled trials identified on conservative treatments for de Quervain's tenosynovitis. 15 were finally selected after applying inclusion and exclusion criteria and assessing their methodological quality. Conclusions: De Quervain's tenosynovitis currently has specific conservative and multimodal treatments, and although local corticosteroid injection is considered the mainstay of treatment, there is no definitive consensus for its treatment. The therapeutic approaches described and discussed have been shown to not only help reduce pain and inflammation, but also significantly improve thumb and wrist mobility and strength. Extracorporeal shock wave therapy with effects similar to those of corticosteroid injections is an effective non-invasive conservative treatment option for this pathology.
