Abstract

El Dr. Santamarina participó representando a Cuba en el Congreso Bolivariano de Reumatología en Venezuela en año 1955 y en el 1er Congreso de la Liga Panamericana de Reumatología, siendo Cuba fundadora de dicha Asociación. A partir del triunfo de la Revolución en 1959 existe un éxodo masivo de médicos quedando algo más de 3 000 laborando en nuestro país y en esos momentos difíciles es que regresa a Cuba procedente de los EE.UU. el Dr. Manuel Lombas García, Profesor Titular en Medicina Interna y Especialista en Reumatología, el cual con un grupo de alumnos y algunos internos establece consultas de Reumatología en la Sala Bacallao primero y posteriormente en Clínica Bajo del Hospital General Docente Calixto García de Ciudad de La Habana, brindándose además consultas en el Hospital Militar Carlos J. Finlay.
