Abstract

Autoimmune rheumatological diseases predispose individuals to a higher risk of preventable infections, due to both inherent immune dysfunction and the use of immunosuppressive therapies. Despite the existence of robust clinical guidelines from organizations such as EULAR, IDSA, and ACR, vaccination in this population continues to be underestimated and poorly implemented. This letter highlights the main barriers to effective immunization in patients with rheumatological diseases and proposes concrete strategies for clinical practice to improve vaccination coverage, especially in middle-income countries like Colombia. It emphasizes the need to integrate vaccination prevention as an essential component of comprehensive rheumatological management, with a focus on equity and evidence-based medicine.
