Miguel Enríquez Espinosa: Síntesis de médico y revolucionario. Su legado formativo en la Facultad de Ciencias Médicas de La Habana que lleva su nombre
Abstract
Introducción: Miguel Enríquez Espinosa fue un médico y dirigente revolucionario chileno, secretario general del Movimiento de Izquierda Revolucionaria. Su vida representa una síntesis entre excelencia clínica y compromiso social, cuyo ejemplo ha sido honrado en Cuba con la designación de un hospital y una facultad de ciencias médicas que llevan su nombre.
Objetivo: Describir la trayectoria médica y revolucionaria de Enríquez y analizar el significado de su legado para los estudiantes y residentes de la Facultad de Ciencias Médicas “Miguel Enríquez” en La Habana.
Método: Análisis documental cualitativo de cinco fuentes primarias (biografía, discursos, crónica periodística y análisis histórico) y de información institucional publicada por el Ministerio de Salud Pública de Cuba y el sitio web de la facultad.
Resultados: Enríquez se formó como médico en la Universidad de Concepción y se especializó en neurocirugía, abandonando su carrera para dedicarse a la lucha revolucionaria. Murió en combate el 5 de octubre de 1974. En Cuba, el Hospital Clínico Quirúrgico “Miguel Enríquez” (fundado en 1894 y renombrado en 1974) y la Facultad de Ciencias Médicas “Miguel Enríquez” (creada en 1979) forman actualmente a 240 docentes, 213 estudiantes de pregrado (50 de ellos de cinco países latinoamericanos) y 184 residentes. Han egresado 2403 profesionales, incluyendo 1747 médicos y 656 licenciados en enfermería.
Conclusiones: Para los estudiantes y residentes cubanos, el nombre de Enríquez simboliza la unidad indisoluble entre conocimiento científico y compromiso con los más desposeídos, constituyendo un referente ético y político en la formación de profesionales de la salud en Cuba.
