Sara Rodríguez Díaz: a life dedicated to nursing and its impact on values education in medical sciences

Introduction: The revolutionary public health project, belonging to the Miguel Enríquez Faculty, is enhanced by its focus on a life dedicated to the noblest of professions: the art of healing and caring for the sick. Sara Rodríguez Díaz, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing with a Master's degree in Didactic Training, has contributed through her example to the training of health professionals at the University of Medical Sciences of Havana. This research is a well-deserved tribute to her life's work.
Objective: To highlight the life story of nurse Sara Rodríguez Díaz as an example for medical education.
Methods: A retrospective descriptive, analysis-synthesis, historical-logical, and documentary analysis method was used. Diplomas, documents, curriculum vitae, biography, and photographs treasured by the professor and her family were selected. Interviews provided testimonies, criteria, and assessments for a qualitative analysis of the information. Results: It reinforced values of responsibility, diligence, sensitivity, solidarity, and humanism, as well as the importance of example, a sense of belonging in professional training, and vocation. It sparked interest in continuing to research professionals who serve as role models within the sector.
Conclusions: Sara is an example of Cuban women and of all nurses worldwide who keep alive the legacy of this dignified and humanitarian profession. Future healthcare professionals have the responsibility to continue upholding the values exemplified in this life story.
