Articulo biográfico sobre el Dr. Manuel Lombas García (1924- 1978); profesor de medicina interna consagrado al estudio y enseñanzas de las enfermedades reumáticas, quien fue responsable de organizar la docencia en esta especialidad en Cuba y comenzar la formación de los que a la postre fueran los primeros especialistas de reumatología en nuestro país; responsable al regresar de los Estados Unidos en el año 1959 con su Teaching fellow en Reumatología alcanzado en el "Sydenhan Hospital" bajo la dirección del profesor Appelhaum, de inaugurar el Servicio Nacional de Reumatología en el Hospital Clínico Quirúrgico Docente "10 de Octubre" después de su peregrinaje con sus enseñanzas por los hospitales Calixto García, Freyre de Andrade y Enrique Cabrera. La muerte lo sorprende prematuramente a los 53 años de edad, el 5 de abril de 1978 en su puesto de trabajo, al que nunca dejo de asistir a pesar de estar enfermo desde días antes. Por acuerdo de la Sociedad Cubana de Reumatología, el Grupo Nacional de Reumatología, sus discípulos y alumnos, le fue otorgada post mortem la orden de "Maestro de la Reumatología en Cuba ".
