Este año se cumple medio siglo que regreso a su patria el profesor Manuel Lombas García, luego de haber cursados estudios de medicina en el Knickerbocker Hospital, Sydenhan Hospital y el Metropolitan Hospital Center y haber adquirido se Teaching fellow en reumatología, pero sobre todo, con el propósito de desarrollar esta especialidad por la que tanto trabajo en Cuba.
