Bruxismo como expresión de afectación temporomandibular en pacientes con enfermedades reumáticas

Las enfermedades reumáticas son conceptualizadas como un grupo de enfermedades que se caracterizan por la presencia de un proceso inflamatorio mantenido que afecta cualquier articulación. El bruxismo es una afección que involucra las partes blandas que rodean la articulación temporomandibular. El objetivo de esta investigación es presentar el caso clínico de un paciente masculino de 31 años de edad, con diagnóstico de 4 años de lupus eritematoso sistémico, que comienza con cuadro agudo (bruxismo), el cual se convierte en la expresión inicial de la actividad de la enfermedad lúpica. Se expone el abordaje terapéutico y rehabilitador en el paciente. Se concluye que el proceso inflamatorio que caracteriza al lupus eritematoso sistémico puede expresarse tanto de forma local como sistémica. En el caso que se reporta la expresión de exacerbación de la enfermedad fue la presencia de las manifestaciones clínicas del bruxismo con trismo incluido. El proceso inflamatorio puede afectar cualquier estructura anatómica de la economía humana.
