Evaluación de la densidad mineral ósea en pacientes cubanos con artritis reumatoide

Se ha reportado que los pacientes portadores de enfermedades reumáticas presentan alteraciones en
los niveles de masa ósea. Existen en la práctica médica diferentes técnicas para efectuar la medición, sin embargo la Absorciometría de doble energía por rayos X (DEXA) es la más aceptada en la actualidad.
Hoy día se considera el test estándar de oro para la evaluación de la densidad mineral ósea al margen de que existen los marcadores bioquímicos de recambio óseo mensurables en sangre y orina capaces de ofrecer al clínico una medida del ritmo de remodelado óseo. La fosfatasa alcalina ósea osteocalcina y péptidos del procolágeno como marcadores de formación ósea y calcio urinario, hidroxiprolina, piridinolina y N telopéptido del colágeno tipo I, como marcadores de resorción.
No obstante no ser capaces de reemplazar a los estudios de DMO en sus funciones. Entre pacientes con artritis reumatoide resulta muy a menudo baja la densidad mineral ósea por lo cual en muchos casos resulta una indicación precisa la evaluación de la masa ósea.
