Introduction The use of this innovative Cuban biotechnology product will contribute to improving the quality of medical care for patients with RA. Its availability has the potential to positively impact the health indicators of the population diagnosed with RA, specifically by reducing the number of patients with unfavorable disease outcomes.
Objective To compare the therapeutic effect of Jusvinza monotherapy with its combination with MTX in adult patients with moderate to severe clinical stage RA.
Method This was a prospective, single-center, open-label, uncontrolled clinical study. The sample consisted of 74 patients. summary measures were used for qualitative variables (percentages) and for quantitative variables (mean, median, standard deviation, interquartile range, maximum and minimum values). To compare means between two independent samples with normal distributions, the t-test and the Mann-Whitney U test for two independent means without normal distribution were used. A significance level of 0.05 was set for all hypothesis tests.
Results. The female sex prevailed 66 (89.2 %), the overall median for the age of the patients was 57 years. At 24 weeks in both groups, a decrease in the DAS 28 values that classify as disease in remission [monotherapy (2.53) / combined therapy (2.29)]. All patients achieved a EULAR response and expressed a clinical improvement of 20% (ACR 20); patients with a 70% improvement (ACR 70) predominated in the monotherapy group (26; 70.3% vs 25; 67.6%).
Conclusions Treatment with Jusvinza as monotherapy or in combination with MTX allows for a reduction in clinical activity in patients with moderate to severe RA. Jusvinza in both treatment groups was shown to be a drug that induces clinical remission and restoration of functional capacity in patients with RA.
