Fracturas osteoporoticas fatales por caidas en pacientes de la tercera edad. 1990 – 1999

Realizamos un estudio descriptivo longitudinal retrospectivo de 140 pacientes de la tercera edad, que sufrieron fracturas osteoporoticas producto de traumas por caídas simples desde sus propios pies sobre el plano de sustentación que fallecieron a consecuencia de diversas complicaciones, derivadas de dichas fracturas en el período comprendido de enero de 1990 a diciembre de 1999, en el Hospital Universitario “Arnaldo Milian Castro” de Santa Clara Villa Clara. Resultaron más afectados los pacientes de la piel blanca, del sexo femenino y del grupo de edades de 80 a 89 años. Predominando las fracturas de cadera en el baño, y en la calle los sitios más frecuentes de caídas. Los factores de riesgo más observados fueron los genéticos, los estilos de vida y el uso de determinados medicamentos. Fueron las enfermedades reumáticas, la Hipertensión Arterial y la Diabetes Mellitus los antecedentes patológicos personales que más incidieron; así como los esteroides, diuréticos, antiflamatorios e hipotensores los medicamentos más usados. La bronconeumonía resultó la complicación mortal más frecuente y su periodo de supervivencia de 11 a 20 días.Downloads
