Behavior of the ophthalmologic manifestations in patient with rheumatoid arthritis

Introduction: the adult's rheumatoid arthritis constitutes an inflammatory, systemic, progressive illness that affects the articulations and the organs that have the presence of conjunctive fabric in common, predominantly among those that are the eyes.
Objective: to determine the visual behavior, of the patients with diagnostic of arthritis rheumatoid.
Methodology: study descriptive, longitudinal of clinical profile, being constituted a sample of 64 patients with rheumatoid arthritis, coming from the Center of Rheumatology, they were carried out, direct and indirect ophthalmoscopy, exam with fissure lamp, tint with fluorescein and test of Shirmer.
Results: i prevail of the feminine sex, the white color of the skin and the group of ages among 40-60 years, the Epiescleritis and the dry eye they were the manifestations identified ophthalmologic. The visual sharpness was affected with more frequency in a light way, the presence of dry eye you could appreciate in patient with more than 5 years of evolution of the entity. The clinical evolution of the patients was satisfactory with the applied therapy.
Conclusions: the increase of the time of evolution of the illness influences negatively in the visual health of the patients with rheumatoid arthritis for what becomes necessary the combined evaluation between rheumatologists and oculists in this type of patient.
