La bioinformática en las especialidades biomédicas: ¿por qué y para qué?

La necesidad de recopilar y organizar toda la información generada a partir de dichos proyectos de secuenciación hizo que en 1973 se creara la primera base de datos Protein Data Bank, aún vigente y que almacena estructura proteicas determinadas por cristalografía de rayos X. La preparación de los profesionales de la salud para enfrentar los desafíos que les planteará la asistencia médica en el escenario de la medicina celular y molecular en las que les tocará desempeñarse, pasa inexorablemente por la incorporación de la bioinformática a su educación.
