Osteoartritis en edades tempranas, retos diagnósticos y terapéuticos

La osteoartritis es considerada como una enfermedad degenerativa y crónica caracterizada por la disminución o pérdida del cartílago articular, asociada a remodelación óseo y distintos grados de inflamación. Como enfermedad afecta la percepción de calidad de vida y la capacidad funcional de los pacientes. La identificación precoz de los factores de riesgo de la enfermedad resulta vital para retrasar su comienzo o disminuir la intensidad de su expresión clínica. Si bien es cierto que es una enfermedad asociada al proceso del envejecimiento, el comienzo de las manifestaciones clínicas se expresa cada vez más temprano. Se presentan imágenes de pacientes menores de 45 años que muestran signos degenerativos articulares compatible con el diagnóstico de osteoartritis. El diagnóstico y tratamiento en estos casos constituye un reto para los profesionales de la salud en pos de preservar el funcionamiento articular y garantizar la capacidad funcional del paciente.
