Caracterización clínica- epidemiológica de pacientes COVID-19

Introducción: El año 2020 impactó al Ecuador por el nuevo coronavirus que produce la COVID-19, enfermedad altamente contagiosa, declarada como emergencia sanitaria por la Organización Mundial de la Salud.
Objetivo: Caracterizar clínica y epidemiológicamente a los pacientes COVID-19 confirmados del hospital Dr. Publio Escobar, Provincia Chimborazo, Ecuador, durante el periodo marzo a agosto de 2020.
Metodología:Estudio descriptivo, retrospectivo y transversal, que incluyó una muestra de 320 pacientes COVID-19 confirmados, mayores de 18 años, de ambos sexos, pertenecientes al hospital Dr. Publio Escobar, Provincia Chimborazo, Ecuador, durante el periodo marzo a agosto de 2020. Se estudiaron las variables: sexo, edad, zona de residencia, comorbilidades, grado de evolución clínica de la COVID-19 y manifestaciones clínicas. El método de muestreo fue de tipo probabilístico aleatorio simple. Los datos fueron obtenidos de las historias clínicas y base de datos hospitalaria. Para el análisis y procesamiento de los datos se empleó el análisis univariado o descriptivo.
Resultados:De una muestra de 320 pacientes, se evidenció un predominio en el grupo de edad de 52 a 68 años (64,07%), sexo femenino (57,5%), procedentes de zonas urbanas(68,75%), con un 57,82% de evolución clínica de COVID-19 en estadio grave. Las comorbilidades más frecuentes fueron la Hipertensión Arterial(38,13%), Diabetes Mellitus(24,06%), y obesidad (13,12%) , y las manifestaciones clínicas más frecuentes fueron la fiebre (26,56%), tos (19,38%), anosmia (15,94%) y disnea(11,25%).
Conclusiones:En la institución hospitalaria investigada predominaron las mujeres adultas, de 52 a 68 años de edad, procedentes de zonas urbanas, con una evolución clínica grave, con antecedentes de hipertensión arterial, diabetes mellitus y la obesidad. Las manifestaciones clínicas más frecuentes fueron la fiebre, tos, anosmia y disnea.
