Utilidad de la proteína C reactiva como predictor de actividad en la espondilitis anquilosante

Introducción: La espondilitis anquilosante es una enfermedad inflamatoria, sistémica y crónica que afecta fundamentalmente a pacientes jóvenes con predominio del sexo masculino. El dolor articular, la rigidez y las deformidades condicionan distintos grados de discapacidad y afectación a la percepción de calidad de vida relacionada con la salud. Objetivo: describir la utilidad de la PCR como predictor de actividad en la espondilitis anquilosante. Metodología: investigación básica, descriptiva, retrospectiva y transversal; que incluyó como universo un total de 42 registros médicos de pacientes con diagnóstico de espondilitis anquilosante atendidos en el periodo 2018 – 2023 en el Hospital Andino de Chimborazo; de los cuales 39 formaron parte del estudio. Se identificaron características generales de los pacientes; intensidad del dolor resultado de los valores séricos de proteína C reactiva; se relacionó la intensidad del dolor con los valores séricos de proteína C reactiva. Resultado: promedio de edad de 34,63 años, predominio de pacientes masculinos (76,92 %), con tiempo de evolución de la enfermedad entre 3 y 5 años (53,85 %) y con entre 2 y 4 exacerbaciones de la enfermedad anualmente (56,41 %). La intensidad media del dolor que predominó fue entre 5 y 7 puntos (43,59 %) y en el 87,18 % de los casos se identificaron valores séricos elevados de proteína C reactiva en el momento de exacerbación de la actividad clínica de la enfermedad. Conclusiones: Los valores séricos de proteína C reactiva se relacionan con la intensidad del dolor; pueden ser utilizados como predictor de actividad clínica de la espondilitis anquilosante.
