Intervención educativa sobre salud sexual y reproductiva en adolescentes

Introducción: Las enfermedades de transmisión sexual y el embarazo en la adolescencia constituyen problemas de salud a nivel mundial. Ambas condiciones se presentan con mayor frecuencia en jóvenes y adolescentes; por lo tanto, en estos grupos poblacionales es donde se debe incidir en aspectos de promoción de salud y prevención de enfermedades como alternativa a la disminución de la morbimortalidad por estas afecciones.
Objetivo: Evaluar los resultados de una intervención educativa sobre salud sexual y reproductiva en adolescentes.
Métodos: Se realizó una investigación aplicada, con diseño cuasiexperimental. El universo fue de 716 adolescentes, residentes en los cantones Colta y Guamote de la provincia Chimborazo, Ecuador. La muestra quedó conformada por 251 adolescentes. Se aplicó una intervención educativa que incluyó como variable el nivel de conocimiento sobre salud sexual y reproductiva. Se utilizó la prueba de McNemar para identificar cambios en el nivel de conocimiento sobre salud sexual y reproductiva.
Resultados: Promedio de edad de 16,23 años y predominio del sexo femenino (55,38 %). En el 22,71 % de los sujetos se identificó antecedentes personales de enfermedad de transmisión sexual y en el 13,14 % antecedentes de embarazo en la adolescencia. Durante el pretest se identificó un nivel de conocimiento bajo en el 59,36 %; durante el postest solo el 20,32 % mantenía un nivel bajo de conocimiento sobre salud sexual y reproductiva (p=0,041).
Conclusiones: La intervención educativa implementada en los adolescentes de los cantones Guano y Penipe, mejoró el nivel de conocimientos sobre salud sexual y reproductiva.
