Salud oral en pacientes con enfermedades reumáticas

Introducción: La salud oral ha sido señalada como uno de los factores que pueden influir negativamente en el control de enfermedades crónicas como es el caso de las enfermedades reumáticas; los procesos inflamatorios e infecciosos constituyen las principales alteraciones de la salud oral en pacientes con este tipo de enfermedades.
Objetivo: Evaluar la salud oral de los pacientes con enfermedades reumáticas atendidos en el Hospital General Andino de Chimborazo.
Metodología: Se realizó una investigación básica, no experimental y descriptiva que tuvo como universo 169 pacientes con enfermedades reumáticas atendidos en el Hospital General Andino de Chimborazo durante el periodo diciembre 2021 – abril 2022. La muestra quedó constituida por 136 pacientes que cumplieron los criterios de inclusión definidos para la investigación. A cada uno de ellos se le realizó un examen bucal general para identificar las alteraciones de la salud oral presentes en cada caso.
Resultados: Promedio de edad de 51,23 años, predominio de pacientes femeninas (78,68%), con diagnóstico de artritis reumatoide (77,20%) y tiempo de evolución de la enfermedad reumática inferior a 5 años (44,12%). El 72,80% de los pacientes presentó al menos una enfermedad oral. La adentia parcial o total (61,62%) y la presencia de caries dentales (52,52%) fueron las de mayor frecuencia de identificación. El 30,88% de los pacientes solo acude a control odontológico ante la presencia de dolor y en el 71,32% se consideró la salud oral como inadecuada.
Conclusiones: Se identificó un elevado porcentaje de pacientes con enfermedad reumática y al menos una afección oral. Existió predominio de pacientes que solo acuden a consulta odontológica ante la presencia de una urgencia o emergencia. La salud oral de los pacientes es inadecuada.
