Actividad física como estrategia de prevención de discapacidad por enfermedad cerebrovascular

Introducción: Las enfermedades cerebrovasculares son uno de los elementos más discapacitantes que se presentan en la práctica médica. La afectación que generan no solo afecta la porción sensitiva de los nervios, sino también su parte motora; lo que condiciona mayor discapacidad. La rehabilitación física puede ser una herramienta preventiva para la discapacidad en pacientes con este tipo de afección.
Objetivo: Evaluar los resultados de una intervención fisioterapéutica para prevenir la discapacidad en pacientes con enfermedad cerebrovascular.
Metodología: Investigación aplicada, con diseño cuasiexperimental y descriptivo en la cual participaron 37 pacientes con enfermedad cerebrovascular. Se aplicó esquema de ejercicios fisioterapéuticos durante 4 meses con frecuencia de 5 veces por semana. Los ejercicios se orientaron al mejoramiento de la motilidad fina, gruesa, así como del tono y trofismo muscular. Se utilizó el HAQ para valorar la capacidad funcional de los pacientes y la prueba de McNemar para determinar cambios al comparar resultados del pretest y postest.
Resultados: promedio de edad de 66,41 años, predominio de mujeres (59,46 %) y con enfermedades crónicas no transmisibles (97,30 %). Al inicio de la intervención el 48,65 % de los pacientes presentaba discapacidad funcional severa. Al terminar la intervención predominaron los pacientes con discapacidad moderada (43,24 %), seguido de pacientes con disparidad ligera (32,43 %).
Conclusiones: La intervención fisioterapéutica aplicada mejoró la discapacidad funcional de los pacientes con enfermedad cerebrovascular que participaron en el estudio.
