Abstract

Osteoarthritis is a condition found worldwide, and it is strongly associated with aging, affecting 27 million adults in the United States in 2005.
The aim of this study was made an epidemiological description in patients with diagnostic of osteoarthritis, namely; osteoarthritis classification, frequency of the more affecting joints by sex, advanced radiographic grade and associated co-morbidity.
Results: the principal affected joints were: knee, 41 % y cervical spine (39 %). Primary osteoarthritis was more prevalent. The radiographic grade 4 (Kellgrem y Lawrence) was found in 24 patients, 11.8 %, more frequently in primary osteoarthritis and knee. Obesity was present 27.2 % patients with osteoarthritis.
Conclusions: Osteoarthritis increases with aging. Primary osteoarthritis was predominant. Knee and cervical spine were the most affecting joints mainly in female.  The radiographic grade 4 was prevalent in primary osteoarthritis and knee.
