Los cambios económicos – sociales ocurridos en Cuba a partir de 1959, significaron el trazado de elevadas metas de transformación en las estructuras económicas, políticas, de la conciencia social y las condiciones de vida de la población (1). En este marco, el Servicio Nacional de Reumatología (SNR) inicia su trabajo en el hospital ¨Clínico Quirúrgico 10 de Octubre¨ a partir del año 1969 oficializándose en el 1984. Si partimos de la veracidad de que la artritis y enfermedades músculo-esqueléticas relacionadas clasifican como la principal causa de morbilidad entre los adultos en países desarrollados (2),entonces se justifica la existencia de servicios como el Nacional de Reumatología de Cuba ,el que desde sus inicios, ha llevado a cabo estrategias para favorecer y ayudar al enfermo reumático y para amplificar dichas acciones a todo el país, de manera que inicia la formación docente a los primeros residentes en el año 1984 y en la actualidad, todas las provincias cuentan con especialistas en ReumatologíaDownloads
