Artritis reumatoide como expresión del síndrome post COVID-19 en adultos mayores

La COVID-19 es una enfermedad viral que se caracteriza por afectar el sistema inmune condicionando un proceso inflamatorio local y sistémico que unido a los trastornos de la microcirculación constituyen los mecanismos etiopatogénicos de la enfermedad. La infección en adultos mayores tiene como riesgo aumentado los cambios que sobre el sistema inmune genera el proceso de envejecimiento. El objetivo de esta investigación es exponer los mecanismos que pueden justificar el aumento de la incidencia de enfermedades reumáticas, específicamente la artritis reumatoide, en adultos mayores previamente afectados por la COVID-19. Se identifica que las enfermedades reumáticas y la COVID-19 compartes similitudes relacionadas con la estimulación de los linfocitos T que constituyen la piedra angular del funcionamiento del sistema inmune. Los linfocitos T estimulados activan la cadena de sucesos que predisponen la aparición de enfermedades reumáticas como es el caso de la artritis reumatoide en pacientes adultos mayores con antecedentes de COVID-19.
