Introduction: COVID-19 generated significant changes in people's daily routine of activities. The implementation of virtual education, teleworking and others are actions that lead to a possible deterioration in people's health, mainly their nutritional status.
Objective: To implement a program of systematic physical activities in university students of the Escuela Superior Politécnica of Chimborazo during confinement by COVID-19.
Methods: Applied research, experimental and with a quasi-experimental design. The universe was made up of all the university students and the sample was determined by 225 students. The 3x3x3 program was applied, consisting of carrying out physical activities for 30 minutes, 3 times a week, for 3 months. The McNemar test was applied to identify the significance of the changes generated by the physical activity program in the nutritional status of the students.
Results: Average age of 22.54 years with a predominance of females (54.67%). 37.78% of the students belonged to the medical career and 30.67% to the health promotion career. During the pre-test, 43.11% of the students were normal weight, 36.00% overweight and 12.89% obese. During the post-test, 52.44% were considered normal weight, 31.11% were overweight and 8.44% were obese.
Conclusions: 3x3x3 physical activity program caused statistically significant changes in the improvement of the nutritional status of the participating students.
