Oximetría de pulso y toma de decisión

Introducción: La enfermad producida por el COVID-19 constituye un problema sanitario mundial sin precedentes que ha conducido a un colapso del sistema de salud tanto en países desarrollados como en economías pobres. Objetivo: Analizar la utilización del oxímetro de pulso en la toma de decisión para acudir oportunamente a la atención médica,.Metodología: Investigación retrospectiva, descriptiva, analítica, de cohorte transversal obtenida a través de un instrumento de recolección de datos (Encuesta) realizada por vía on line a 348 pacientes mayores de 20 años de edad. Se recolectaron variables clínicas epidemiológicas que permitieron caracterizar la muestra, previo consentimiento informado. Las variables estadísticas fueron
procesadas a través de estadística descriptiva e inferencial, determinándose pruebas de significación y Odd Ratio. Los datos se organizaron en tablas y gráficos procesándose a través del programa de acceso IBM SPSS Satisfice. Resultados: El mayor por ciento de los encuestados fueron mujeres (60,6 %), el 91,6% conocían sobre la oximetría de pulso. En los pacientes complicados que acudieron tempranamente por atención médica, la oximetría de pulso los ayudó 9 veces más para tomar decisión. En Cuarenta y seis pacientes que presentaron dificultad respiratoria, se obtuvo un Odd. Ratio de 30, con valor p significativo demostrándose que la oximetría de pulso ayudó a decidir a tomar una conducta más rápida para solicitar atención médica. Conclusiones: La oximetría de pulso realizada en el hogar ayudó a los pacientes a tomar decisión para acudir tempranamente por atención médica.
